Ice

So last weekend was the one I had been preparing for all semester. In addition to all of my coursework and extracurricular activities I was studying to take the CFA Exam on December 7th. It is a personal goal of my to acquire the designation and something I have been working extremely hard toward.

As many of you know, last Friday, Texas was hit with a terrible ice storm. Even with this wrecking havoc all along I-35, I made the drive to Dallas in order to take the test. Little did I know that I would receive an email that afternoon letting me know that my test could be rescheduled for June of next year if weather inhibited you from getting to the testing facility. That may sound like a bit of relief but I had prioritized this test all semester and wanted to knock it out that Saturday. Unfortunately, my car made the decision for me to take the test in June because rear-wheel drive doesn’t work particularly well on icy roads.

What this taught me, as in most of my MBA career, was to focus on preparation. This is because no matter what we do there will be circumstances beyond our control but being an MBA means that regardless of those circumstances I’m ready. It may sound like common sense and it is, but it reinforces the point that I will do everything in my power to be ready for the task at hand, regardless of the situation.
