The support of the students and faculty are astounding. I continue to grow spiritually, emotionally, and academically!

Encouragement

I found the most encouraging photo of my future profession! I was researching the Child Life Council webpage and came across this picture of medical play. Perfect example of how to explain medical procedures on a child’s level of comprehension. Using play toys is a perfect way of introducing a possibly frightening procedure.

Encouraging example of the Child Life Specialist Profession!

For my Child Development class at Baylor University, our lab requirement is to volunteer with children in a developmental setting. I chose the South Waco Recreation Center. I work with children ranging from 1st to 6th grade. These children are usually from underprivileged Waco families. I assist them with their homework and interactive activities. We play games encouraging quick thinking, communication, and development of gross and fine motor skills.

I attended our weekly service opportunity today! I was able to mentor to children in a poor neighborhood here in Waco. They were so spirited and grateful! We lead them in games encouraging communication, physical activity, and mental stimulation. I love working with those kiddos!

I am possibly working at the YMCA daycare this summer! I think it would be a great opportunity and prepare me even more for Child Life. I would be a daycare manager, overseeing all the children’s activities! Cannot wait to see where this opportunity takes me!

I recently applied for an internship at the Texans Children’s Hospital. This is the perfect kind of hospital I hope to work at once I graduate. They have an outstanding Child Life program and because they a children’s specialized hospital, they have a great need for child life specialists. Hoping I meet the requirements and am able to participate in this great internship opportunity!!
