Houston Press Club Names Baylor Lariat as Best Student Newspaper

The Baylor Lariat, Baylor University’s campus newspaper, has added to its long list of awards by being named the best student newspaper in Texas by the Houston Press Club as part of its 2018 Lone Star Awards. The annual awards recognize excellence in student news reporting in categories including newspaper/print, photography and TV and radio.

“These awards validate the hours of hard work our students put in each semester to turn out quality publications,” said Dr. Sara Stone, chair and professor of journalism, public relations and new media. “The students impress me with their writing, editing, photography and design skills. I am so proud of them — they inspire me.”

The Lariat’s win follows a similar triumph in May 2018, when the publication won the best student newspaper award in the 2018 Associated Press Managing Editors Awards.
