Spring Beginnings

By Aaron Carter

It’s been just over a week since Spring Break and Baylor is starting to buzz again. After a short lull while we students shuffled about the post-break doldrums, we’ve gotten back into the grind and are ready to face the rest of the semester. Everyone is outside, it seems, taking in the sun and greeting warmer weather. Some of us are energized by the weather, others of us are starting to feel the pressure. When the weather gets warmer during the Spring semester, it comes to some of us as a looming omen. Finals first, then the end of another semester, another school year, and even, for seniors, the end of a chapter of life.

Although, I don’t think it does any good to think about Spring in that way. It isn’t the season about endings, after all. Being worried about what comes next is hardly the best way to spend these days. For now, the weather is warm enough to be out in shorts, but not hot enough to drive us into the air-conditioning. The waking grass is a bright apple green and the trees are starting to bud.

Take a walk. Baylor looks stunning right now, all dressed in green leaves and golden sunlight. It’s more than a shame to spend all your time studying or working. It’s a loss. If there is ever a time to allow distraction, it’s now.

Also, if you can’t spare the time to go out right now, then hold fast. Dia is coming.

Making the Most

Over Christmas break I was asked by all of my relatives and my parent’s friends about my future more than ever before. I was reminded that I only have three semesters left, my dad checked multiple times to make sure I was set to graduate at the four year mark, and I had multiple interviews for summer internships all over the break!

At first the thought of “I have one more Christmas break, one more fall semester and one more summer” really freaked me out. However, after my first week of my 6th semester at Baylor I have realized I will be so prepared for what is ahead! It is not that I am scared of the future, or the fact my long breaks from school are coming to a close, it is the fact that my time at Baylor is getting closer to an end. If I could even put into words how much I love Baylor I think it would look more like a dissertation instead of a blog post. I may only have three semesters left here at Baylor (well as a student), and I plan to make the most of it!

Being a Baylor Bear was the best decision I have made in my short 21 years! The community, the friends, the professors, the games, the city of Waco, the restaurants, the Dr Pepper and Common Grounds addictions that have formed, are just a few of the reasons why I love Baylor. So here’s to second semester Junior year, and here’s to you (high school student)! Come visit Baylor and understand why I love this community. #sicem

Looking Forward

Spring semester is always crazy busy, but full of really exciting things on Baylor’s campus. The sun finally starts to come out (except we had snow last night…), and everyone is looking ahead to summer as the weather warms up.

The semester started off with recruitment for the Panhellenic sororities. It’s an exhausting week, but it’s so fun to meet a ton of new people! We have 84 new additions to Tri Delta, and meeting them has been a blast. This week, our new members got their big sisters, so I have two new “grandlittle” sisters.

After recruitment, we jumped right into Sing practice since we perform in less than a month! Our theme is still a secret, but it’s so much fun to learn all of the dances and music. I can’t wait until we finally get to perform at Waco Hall and see all of this hard work come together to make our act! If you can come down for either weekend, I would highly recommend attending Sing. It’s a great way to see some of the organizations on campus, and it gives you a great glimpse into a fun event for all of us.

Some other things I’m looking forward to:

Baseball season – I am a part of Diamond Girls, which is a support system for the baseball team. We get to sell programs and even work the field during games, getting bats and foul balls. Only 20 more days!

Spring Break – my mom and I are going to Disney World! I can’t wait to ride some of the roller coasters, but really I want to go see all the characters again.

Diadeloso – This is a day that Baylor gives us off to celebrate the great year we’ve had before we all start studying for finals and leave for the summer. The website has the schedule from last year of all the fun things Baylor put on for us! You can also see some pictures from last year on Baylor’s Facebook.

Spring semester is a blast, and I can’t wait to see what it holds this year!
